POWA (Progress of Waikouaiti Area) is a community organisation established in 1992. The size and dynamic of our community has changed markedly, however we believe that our purpose for being is still very relevant today, if not more so.
POWA is all about having a strong connection with the community. Our mission is to sustain processes which mobilise our community’s strengths and resources in community-led action to the benefit of the area, its residents, families/whanau and environment.
Our values encompass;
• Engagement of community members
• Support to initiate projects to enhance the area
• Collaboration between community groups, agencies, businesses and policy makers
• Facilitation of the dissemination of relevant information
• Listening to and Advocating on behalf of groups which represent the community’s interests
